Life On the Edge: Extreme Adventures of Troy Henkels

Troy Henkels grew up on an apple orchard in Dubuque, Iowa. After several years trying his hand at holding down a "real job," he set out in search of a more adventurous lifestyle and moved to Alaska. Although there have been tradeoffs, this approach to living life has served him well. It has taken him all over the world and on all sorts of adventures. Standing on top of Mount McKinley, shivering at the South Pole, warming up on beaches in the Virgin Islands, and trying to catch his breath on Mount Everest were not experiences he could have fit into a two-week vacation. Like all decisions in Troy's life that hinge on once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, quickly and without much contemplation, he always says yes. "Life on the Edge" takes him to some of the harshest environments on Earth: Alaska, Antarctica, Iceland, Everest, the Kalahari Desert, the North Pole, and the Bering Strait - six continents in all. When asked "Why do you climb?" "Why take risks?" "Why must you get to the top?" he simply says, there's a kind of trust and teamwork that you find nowhere else in life."
